Volunteers Needed If you are interested in gardening and/or learning more about the care of trees or tree identification, volunteer to become a member of the Lyndon Forestry Board. We are currently seeking volunteers to help plant young trees in the nursery, keep the trees watered and weeded throughout the season, and work on a tree identification project in some of the City parks. History 2001 • Lyndon Tree Board created • Meetings held with City Forester to educate Tree Board • Designated Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation • Hazard Tree Inventory completed for Robsion Park • Mark Timmons & Associates contracted as City foresters. 2002 • Received a Growth Award from the National Arbor Day Foundation. 2003 • Began engraving and hanging signs labeling trees in Robsion Park • Nursery began by Lyndon Forestry Board, Mark Timmons & Associates, and Eagle Scout Troop 109. The nursery is located on Lyndon Lane near the pedestrian entrance to Robsion Park. The trees grown in the nursery will replace dead or diseased trees in Robsion Park and other areas belonging to the City. Tyler Bodi, an Eagle Scout candidate and resident of Lyndon, and his troop, built a fence to surround the nursery. Don Thomas, resident of Lyndon and member of the Forestry Board, tilled the area to prepare for planting trees. • Received Kentucky Division of Forestry Grant to complete a Hazard Tree Inventory within the City of Lyndon • Hazard Tree Inventory of City rights-of-way completed • Designated Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation 2004 - 2008 • Continued labeling trees in Robsion Park • Began working with LG&E on pruning • Designated Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation • Hazard Tree Inventory update • Planted tree seedlings from the KY Division of Forestry in City Nursery • Community Tree Walk in Robsion Park • Dug, transplanted and mulched trees from City Nursery to parks. • Transplanted trees out of nursery into Robsion Park 2009 - 2011 • Designated Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation • Planted tree seedlings from the KY Division of Forestry in City Nursery. • Mulched all newly transplanted trees in Robsion Park and Romara Place • Informational meeting at City Hall to encourage volunteers for the Lyndon Tree Board • Attended KY Tree Board Seminar • Flyers handed out looking for volunteers for the Lyndon Tree Board at Lyndon Fair • Tree Giveaway to Residents |
